Questions

How old is my Birman in human years?

Use the calculator above with your Birman's current age. The AAFP curve treats year 1 as 15 human years, year 2 adds 9 (cumulative 24), then each subsequent year adds about 4 human years.

When is my Birman considered a senior?

From 10 years, whatever the breed: the 2021 AAHA/AAFP Feline Life Stage Guidelines count a cat over 10 as senior. Your vet may suggest check-ups twice a year from then on.

Does this age calculator apply to Birman mixes?

Yes. The AAFP curve is the same for all domestic cats. Lifespan defaults shift slightly toward the breed average if your cat is predominantly Birman; if your cat is a mix without strong breed expression, use the Domestic Shorthair option.
