When should my German Shorthaired Pointer start vaccinations?
Most German Shorthaired Pointer puppies start their first DHPP between 6 and 8 weeks in the US, or 6 to 9 weeks in the UK and EU. Use the form above with your puppy's age and country to see the next-due date.
When can my GSP start hunting or long-distance running?
For general activity, after the final puppy vaccination (given at 16 weeks or later), when your vet says protection is in place. For hunting work, hold off on long retrieves and water work until your vet confirms growth is finished, at about 15 months.
Does my GSP need Lyme disease vaccine?
Yes for most hunting dogs. GSPs spend time in tall grass and tick-heavy fields. Confirm with your vet based on your region.
Does my GSP need leptospirosis?
In the US, yes: since 2024 the AAHA vaccination guidelines list leptospirosis as a core vaccine for all dogs, with two doses from 12 weeks of age and a booster every year. In the UK it is part of the usual puppy course. Elsewhere it is core where the disease is present (WSAVA), so ask your vet. Hunting dogs drink from streams, ponds and puddles, which is how dogs meet the bacteria.
