When should my Golden Retriever start vaccinations?
Most Golden Retriever puppies start their first DHPP between 6 and 8 weeks in the US, or 6 to 9 weeks in the UK and EU. Use the form above with your puppy's age and country to see the next-due date.
When can my Golden start long hikes?
For ordinary walks, after the final puppy vaccination (given at 16 weeks or later), when your vet says protection is in place. Hold off on long-distance running until your vet confirms growth is finished, at about 15 months.
Does my Golden need leptospirosis or Lyme?
In the US, yes: since 2024 the AAHA vaccination guidelines list leptospirosis as a core vaccine for all dogs, with two doses from 12 weeks of age and a booster every year. In the UK it is part of the usual puppy course. Elsewhere it is core where the disease is present (WSAVA), so ask your vet. Lyme is different: it stays a vaccine for dogs in tick-heavy areas, so ask your vet about your region.
Are Goldens more prone to vaccine reactions?
Not specifically. Goldens follow the standard DHPP schedule. If your pup ever has a noticeable reaction, your vet may pre-medicate for the next visit.
Same schedule for a Golden Retriever mix?
Yes. The core vaccines are the same for purebreds and mixes: DHPP, leptospirosis in the US (AAHA), and rabies where the law or travel requires it. Vaccines such as Lyme and Bordetella depend on lifestyle and region, not breed. The schedule above works for any Golden Retriever mix.
