Common questions about Maine Coon vaccinations
When should my Maine Coon start vaccinations?
Most Maine Coon kittens start their first FVRCP between 6 and 8 weeks in the US, or 8 to 9 weeks in the UK and EU. Use the form above with your kitten's age and country to see the next-due date.
My Maine Coon is large. Does that change the vaccine schedule?
No. FVRCP and Rabies timing is the same for Maine Coons as any cat. The bigger Maine Coon concern is HCM (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy) screening before any anesthesia, not vaccines themselves.
Should my Maine Coon get HCM screening?
Yes. HCM is the most common heart disease in cats and Maine Coons carry elevated risk. An echocardiogram before any future anesthesia (spay or neuter, dental cleaning) is a sensible baseline. Mention the breed to your vet at the first visit.
Does my Maine Coon need outdoor non-core vaccines?
Depends on lifestyle. Maine Coons are often indoor or supervised-outdoor. If yours has outdoor access, FeLV becomes important. Discuss at the first visit.
Same schedule for a Maine Coon mix?
Yes for the core vaccines. FVRCP and Rabies are identical for purebreds and mixes. Non-core vaccines (FeLV, FIV) depend on lifestyle and region, not breed. The schedule above works for any Maine Coon mix.
