Common questions about Burmese vaccinations
When should my Burmese start vaccinations?
Most Burmese kittens start their first FVRCP between 6 and 8 weeks in the US, or 8 to 9 weeks in the UK and EU. Use the form above with your kitten's age and country to see the next-due date.
Should my Burmese get HCM screening?
Yes. Burmese have elevated risk for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. An echocardiogram before any future anesthesia (spay, neuter, dental) is sensible. Vaccine timing itself is unchanged.
Does my Burmese need outdoor non-core vaccines?
Burmese are typically indoor companion cats. FeLV is recommended through the first-year booster; after year one, indoor-only Burmese can usually drop it.
Are Burmese more sensitive to anesthesia?
Yes, partly because of HCM risk. Mention the breed to your vet so they can plan an echocardiogram before any sedation. Vaccines themselves are well tolerated.
Same schedule for a Burmese mix?
Yes for the core vaccines. FVRCP and Rabies are identical for purebreds and mixes. Non-core vaccines (FeLV, FIV) depend on lifestyle and region, not breed. The schedule above works for any Burmese mix.
