Common questions about Persian vaccinations
When should my Persian start vaccinations?
Most Persian kittens start their first FVRCP between 6 and 8 weeks in the US, or 8 to 9 weeks in the UK and EU. Use the form above with your kitten's age and country to see the next-due date.
Why is brachycephalic relevant for my Persian?
Persians have a flat face, which can mean stronger reactions to anesthesia and slower recovery from upper-respiratory infections. Vaccines themselves are fine; mention the flat-faced anatomy to your vet for any future sedation.
Should my Persian get PKD screening?
Yes. Persians carry elevated risk for polycystic kidney disease. A one-time DNA test or kidney ultrasound before age one establishes the baseline. Vaccines are unaffected.
Does my Persian need outdoor non-core vaccines?
Persians are typically indoor companion cats. FeLV is recommended through the first-year booster regardless; after year one, indoor Persians can usually drop it.
Same schedule for a Persian mix?
Yes for the core vaccines. FVRCP and Rabies are identical for purebreds and mixes. Non-core vaccines (FeLV, FIV) depend on lifestyle and region, not breed. The schedule above works for any Persian mix.
