Pomeranian Feeding Chart: Portions by Age and Weight

2 min read

Poms are toys with hypoglycemia risk and dental concerns. Here's the precise portion chart.

Pomeranians are tiny, fluffy, and feature most of the standard toy-breed concerns: hypoglycemia in puppies, dental disease, joint and tracheal issues. Feeding precision matters.

Adult -10%. Dental and joint care.

What makes feeding a Pom different

Hypoglycemia in puppies. Same as Chihuahuas — small glycogen reserves. Frequent meals; watch for weakness, tremors. Corn syrup / honey on gums + emergency vet for episodes.

Dental disease. Crowded mouths. Daily brushing + small kibble + dental cleanings.

Tracheal collapse. Common in toy breeds. Use a harness, not a collar. Diet doesn’t directly cause but obesity worsens it.

Patellar luxation. Lean weight + minimize jumping.

Alopecia X. «Black skin disease» — hair loss with skin darkening, often unexplained. Some cases respond to vet-supervised dietary / supplement adjustments; many don’t. Not nutrition-preventable.

Common breed concerns and feeding

  • Hypoglycemia (puppies): 3-4 meals, never skip.
  • Dental: small kibble + daily brushing.
  • Tracheal collapse: harness over collar; lean weight.
  • Patellar luxation: lean weight.
