Cane Corso Exercise Needs: How Much, What Kind, by Age

1 min read

Corsos need substantial daily exercise plus structured mental work. Here's the breed-specific guide.

Cane Corsos are large Italian working dogs — protective, intelligent, and powerful. They need substantial daily output combined with structured training.

What makes Corso exercise different

Slow growth = late high-impact start. Hip dysplasia common. No agility / weight pull / forced jogging under 18 months.

Mental + structural training. Working dog drive needs jobs. Obedience drills, protection sport (Schutzhund/IGP), tracking, structured walks.

Bloat protocol. Deep-chested. No vigorous exercise 1 hr before/after meals.

Working dog impulse control. Without channeled exercise + training, Corsos become harder to manage at full adult size. Quality of work > quantity of distance.

Best activities

  • Long walks with structure.
  • Tracking, scent work.
  • Obedience drills.
  • Weight pull / drafting (adult, conditioned).
  • Off-leash hiking with solid recall.

Activities to avoid

  • High-impact under 18 months.
  • Vigorous play around mealtime.
  • Hot weather over-exertion.
  • Dog parks (size + protective drive).

Sample weekly schedule

  • Daily: 45-60 min walk + 20-30 min training/drills
  • Weekend: longer hike + structured training session
