Cane Corso Feeding Chart: Portions by Age and Weight

2 min read

Cane Corsos are giant working dogs with bloat risk. Here's the portion chart with breed-specific feeding rules.

Cane Corsos are large Italian working dogs — muscular, deep-chested, and protective. Feeding rules center on bloat prevention and slow puppy growth.

Daily portion guide (adult)

Adult weightLow activityModerate activity
90 lb (41 kg)4 cups4 ½ cups
100 lb (45 kg)4 ½ cups5 cups
110 lb (50 kg)5 cups5 ½ cups

Split into 2-3 meals. Reduce 10% for neutered.

Puppy (8 weeks - 18 months)

Large-breed (consider giant-breed for males projecting to 100+ lb) puppy formula. Slow growth = healthier hips. 3-4 meals until 6 months, 2-3 thereafter.

Senior (7+ years)

Adult -10%. Joint support, cardiac monitoring.

What makes feeding a Cane Corso different

Bloat protocol. Deep-chested. 2-3 meals, no peri-meal vigorous exercise, slow-feeder, floor-level bowl. Discuss prophylactic gastropexy with vet.

Slow puppy growth. Critical for joint health. Large- or giant-breed puppy formula until 18 months.

Joint health = weight management. Hip dysplasia is common. Lean body condition lifelong.

Quality protein matters. Working / muscular breeds benefit from named-animal-protein-first formulas with feeding-trial validation.

Common breed concerns and feeding

  • Bloat / GDV: meal-splitting + slow-feeder + no peri-meal exertion + gastropexy discussion.
  • Hip dysplasia: lean weight + appropriate puppy formula.
  • Idiopathic epilepsy: if diagnosed, vet may recommend specific dietary considerations.

Sample daily routine

FAQ

Should I get gastropexy for my Cane Corso?

Reasonable consideration given bloat risk. Talk to your vet (often combined with neuter).

Is grain-free safe?

Per FDA DCM review, AAFCO-feeding-trial-validated formulas preferred. Talk to your vet before grain-free.

When do I switch from puppy to adult food?

12-18 months for Cane Corso. Premature switch under-fuels growth; late switch over-fuels.
